Professional Career

Embarking on his legal journey, Sher Afzal initiated his legal career and subsequently assumed the role of a Civil Judge at the Peshawar District Courts in the year 2004. Following this stint, he transitioned back to private legal practice. In the 12 months 2018, a pivotal juncture spread out as he aligned himself with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), where he shouldered the responsibility for the birthday celebration’s criminal affairs. Recognizing his noteworthy contributions, he secured a role on the birthday party’s center committee.

In the aftermath of the 2023 Pakistani protests, which triggered a crackdown on PTI officials and the abduction of several members, Marwat ascended to prominence as a distinguished leader. Affiliation with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F):

  • Before joining PTI, Sher Afzal Marwat was associated with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) from 2008 to October 15, 2017.
  • At a jirga, he publicly announced that he was leaving the party, justifying his decision by saying, “I see no reason in my constituency to sit in a party where no respect is shown to me and leaders have no time to deal with the issues they are facing the people”.

Joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI):

  • On April 16, 2018, he joined PTI, persuaded by Asad Qaiser and Salim Saifullah Khan.
  • Initially, he planned to contest the 2018 Pakistani general election and the 2018 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial election from NA-36 Lakki Marwat and PK-91 Lakki Marwat-I, respectively, as a PTI candidate.

Withdrawal and Independent Candidacy:

  • Due to delays in ticket allotment, he withdrew his candidacy for both seats.
  • Despite his withdrawals, his name remained on the ballot papers for both seats as an independent candidate.
  • In NA-36 Lakki Marwat, he received 92 votes, losing to Mohammad Anwar Khan of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
  • In PK-91 Lakki Marwat-I, he secured 33 votes, losing to Munawar Khan, an MMA candidate.

Conflicts

On September 27, 2023, Sher Afzal Marwat observed himself embroiled in a fiery confrontation with PML(N) Senator Afnan Ullah throughout a live TV display on Express News, hosted by Javed Chaudhry.

While Sher Afzal openly acknowledged his role in the altercation, conflicting reports emerged from PML(N) politicians and media influencers. Some suggested that Sher Afzal had also sustained injuries during the scuffle. However, an FIR filed by Senator Afnan Ullah confirmed that he bore the brunt of Sher Afzal’s blows.
